Abstract Colouring Book Progress

I thought I’d give a quick update about the colouring book I’m currently working on. It’s taking a bit longer than I’d like, but that’s just how it goes sometimes!

This is a book of easy abstract drawings. I had a bit of a false start with this one, as I began drawing the designs digitally, as I did with my previous books (where my method was to start with a rough pencil sketch, then redraw in Illustrator using my tablet). After completing four or five designs, I realised I’d rather be drawing them completely on paper instead. So I started over, and this will be my first book of ink drawings.

I do enjoy drawing on paper more than working digitally, so I’ll probably stick with this method for my future books too, except for things like patterns and mandalas. The style is quite different – natural, organic lines, rather than perfect digital ones – so I hope that having books in different drawing styles won’t confuse people 🙂

I’m currently working on #23 of 30. I’m not sure how much longer it’ll take to finish, but it’s getting there. After this book, I’ll be doing easy flower and animal books in a similar style, followed by a positive words title with more detailed designs. But that’s a while away yet. Back to work now 😀
